Grim conditions would have been a good enough description to describe the wether today for the 80 riders queued up the the first race of SERRL's Summer season road race. Winter is back with vengeance as the rain continued to poor for the next 70miles.

Disappointed we would be as the action start from the off, riders jumping clear and holding good advantages, but these breakaways were not containing any key riders, this didn't stop the the aggressive nature of the day.

“It's going to be a tough rider who wins here today, ” commented Kevin Knox from ViCious Velo who organised the team of marshals for the day.

It took 50miles of constant attacking before the 80 strong field was reduced to 20.

7 of those had ridden clear in the closing stages. The persistent rain was now starting to turn to sleet. Chris McNamara Pedal Heaven RT, Lewis Atkins Twenty3c.co.uk-Orbea, Wouter Sybrandy Team IG - Sigma Sport, Steven adams, Cyclepremier Racing Team , James Moss NODE4 - Giordana Racing, Nicolas Hutchings CS Grupetto all look comfortable tapping through winding down the distance.

Who would have the legs to escape this select group of riders?

Steven Adams, Cyclepremier Racing Team, who had been up front most of the race, in most of the moves showed not only was he good at being an escap artist he could sprint as well crossing the line a bike length clear of Lewis Atkins Twenty3c.co.uk-Orbea, and Wouter Sybrandy Team IG - Sigma Sport , for third.

James Moss NODE4 - Giordana Racing, picked up the most aggressive rider award for his efforts.

Wouter Sybrandy “I tried several times to try and get away from the sprinter in the group, but they were strong today”.

Steven adams, “I've not had a win like this for a while, I always seemed to go well in conditions like this”.

"The conditions during the race made it very hard for me, it wasn't easy to feed during the race which led me to drop off the pace with just over 2 laps to go but I kept riding because I knew that the conditions had meant a lot of people were dropped before me and even didn't finish, so I was quite happy with 24th in the end. This is really the start of my first proper road season, as the past 2 have been disrupted by a knee injury, but after a good winter of training I can feel that my base fitness is better than ever, but I need to work on my race fitness which will develop well as the year progresses"

First Race of 2012 Summer season Supported by ViCiOUS Velo

This year's SERRL summer season opening race on 4th March looks like it will be a corker of a race. Vicious Velo will be supporting the event and have offered a £100 'winner takes all' cash prize on the tough Lamberhurst/Frant circuit in Kent. Ben's mum said, "we want to see riders racing to win, not to come 2nd, 3rd or 4th that's why there'll be no prize money for them"

"It's a good tough circuit, last year was a good race some great moments of aggressive riding resulting in a win for Dominic Schills Van Eyck Sport in 2011"

FOR THOSE RIDERS WHO DID NOT ATTEND THE SERRL AGM 2011 AND THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ THE AGM MINUTES, IT WAS DECIDED TO AMEND AFFILIATION FEES AND ENTRY FEES FOR RIDERS OF NON-AFFILIATED CLUBS AND TEAMS IN LIGHT OF THE LOW UP-TAKE OF CLUB/TEAM AFFILIATION TO SERRL.

Pre-entry for affiliated club members is £15 and EOL £22

Pre entry for non affiliated club members is £20 and EOL £25

Rider affiliation from affiliated clubs is £20 and non affiliated clubs £25.

Christmas is over the training continues for the early season races.
